I am happy to announce Grady and I have made it through one more week! Ross has pretty much remained on the same schedule of eating every 3 hours (day and night). This week, however, it's been exciting to see more "waketime." My ultimate goal is to gradually begin implementing the "Babywise" schedule.
It's been clear there are a few things that have worked wonders no matter what . . . this week.
I thought I'd share . . .
Swaddling
Oh, my goodness gracious! There is a 200% difference in Ross' sleeping when she is swaddled. The first night home from the hospital, it was obvious we weren't swaddling her properly. She was constantly active and noisy throughout the night . . . which, of course, kept me worried and on edge the entire time! By night 2 we had completely corrected the problem by simply swaddling her tighter! The tighter, the better. She slept wonderfully . . . and so did I.
Being Outdoors

I couldn't be happier the weather has changed for the good! Ross loves being outside! I don't know what it is, but she must feel it instantly . . . because she immediately settles herself . . . even with a black beast swarming her . . .

The Plug
I know, I know . . . why, you ask, have I done it to myself? Nobody seems to have anything good to say about a pacifier. But, if you could see how she completely melts with even the first little suck . . . how she can go from this . . .
. . . to this within seconds.
We are trying our best to use it sparingly and not as a constant crutch. Of course, we'll see how that goes . . .
I am most excited that Ross' 2 week check-up is this Friday! I hope and pray she's gained lots of weight, which will ensure that the breastfeeding is truly working!
Again, we just couldn't be more happy! She is beyond wonderful!

She is soooo cute, Holly! I just love her hair!!!! What does Salsa think of her new sister?
Pacifiers are wonderful, don't let anyone tell you different! I barely know a child who didn't use one and if they didn't, it was because they preferred sucking on their hands or fingers. You can take away a paci, but not a thumb! Sucking is natural to babies and it calms them. I think denying them that is wrong, personally. As long as I don't see a 3 year old using a pacifier, I don't think there's anything wrong with it whatsoever!! :)
Congratulations on your sweet girl, she's adorable!!
Thank you! After reading all the books, I think I needed some reassurance, for sure!
I can't wait until Thursday when I see her again! I miss her so much! She is such a sweetie! Keep those blog pictures coming! I can't get enough of her!
we are HUGE fans of both the swaddle and pacifier in our house! don't feel bad about the paci... it reduces the chances of SIDS to use a paci. it also reduces stress and insanity in the parents :)
She is too cute!
Oooooo...sweet baby Ross! I told you -- you test it all out and then tell me what to do come September! ;) If only it were that easy...
Holly, you need to do what works and what feels right to you! Try not to worry about stuff bc as soon as you get all worked up about something, Ross will completely change!
Can't wait to hold my sweet niece this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was thinking the same way about pacifiers at first. i almost didn't even want to try them at all. but, isn't it wonderful how it soothes her? Durham only needs hers when she is ready to go to sleep... and without it, we would be going crazy! :)
I also got really anxious about the babywise schedule and thought that i was failing. But then realized (by writing down everything she did for a few days) that she was on her own schedule w/o me even knowing it! And, it followed right along with what the books says. So, don't get stressed. However you do it is the RIGHT way for Ross! :)
Keep the pictures coming. She is beautiful, Holly.
Glad you are finding things that are working. Pretty much the exact things that worked for Peyton too. We LOVED those Swaddle blankets! And don't fret about the paci. Madison never used one and I vowed Peyton wouldn't either, but I guess some babies just NEED it. Like they say, she won't be in college with it! :-)
I apparently had 5 pacis when I was little, and just look how well I turned out! :)
i love the picture of her all swaddled! its so cute!
Glad to see everything is going well for you and Grady. Ross is beautiful! I'm jealous you have made it out to eat and outside already ... I haven't quite gotten it together yet! :-)
Don't worry about pacis at all. That whole "nipple confusion" theory is silly. Will had about 30,000 pacis until he was 2 when we got rid of them all at one time. Watch out for what "they say" - it can wear us mommy's out. Do what is best for you, Grady and Ross. :-)
