Last Minute Details

I have to admit, I'm a bit sad to be done with this little nursery. I have had more fun decorating it than any other room in the house. Maybe subconsciously I've been putting off this last project just so I could drag the decorating out a little bit longer . . .

I've had this little wooden "R" for months now . . . ever since I started collecting letters for the alphabet wall in the room. In fact, I call it fate since it happened to be the only letter I mistakenly duplicated during my search.

Anyway, what better place to use my extra "R" than on Ross' door.

I started with tracing and cutting out the same letter on a sheet of orange scrapbook paper.

I then, decoupaged it to the wooden letter.

I used an old frame I found at the thrift store and stapled chicken wire to the back . . . much like the frame already in the room that displays the flashcards.

A simple clothes pin holds the letter in place.

Well, *sigh* I'm officially done.

I guess I need to be . . . as little Ross will be making her debut on Monday, and I'm pretty certain I won't have time for projects anytime soon . . .

Hello, "His House."

Oh, how I've missed you.

With all this bed rest, I haven't been able to stop by a His House in weeks. Friday, I got my thrifting fix and found some fun (and cheap) Easter decorations.

I love these white vases! In fact, I've been eyeing them at the thrift stores for quite some time. Easter seemed like the perfect time to use them!

38 Weeks!

Well, as it turns out, little Ross has changed her mind and decided she's perfectly content where she is. I went back to the doctor yesterday, and I have made no progress in the last week. She believes Ross may just stay put a little longer than originally expected . . . and well, I guess we'll take our chances and see if she'll stay in just one more week. We were given the option of induction on March 30th or April 5th . . . and since I've made no progress, we decided to go with April 5th. In other words, if she doesn't come before, she will officially be born April 5th.

I have to admit I'm a little dissapointed as I was getting really excited to see her little face . . . BUT this now gives me the opportunity to fully prepare our house and take "nesting" to the next level . . . maybe get a few more "thrifting" trips in . . . take a couple more baths . . . and read a few more pages in the many books I've inherited from my sister.

Of course, with that being said, she'll probably come tomorrow . . . at the "His House."

No Baby.

Well . . . I guess the bed rest has done it's job . . . because this little girl remains put in this ever-growing belly of mine. I've felt a little more comfortable getting up and doing things here and there . . . but I tell you, stir-crazy has taken on a whole new meaning!

Anyway, while I sit, I've been on a mission to find the perfect diaper bag, and I need some help! This seems to be one of the last items I need, and I was hoping that some of you might have some good suggestions.

Help!

Ross Update

Back from the doctor again . . . amazingly, I'm still at 2 cm. However, I'm completely effaced and Ross has positioned herself even lower!

I'm relieved that tomorrow marks the 37th week . . . in other words, "full term!" She could come any day now! And, if she doesn't, we'll most likely schedule induction for March 30. Which means . . . in 12 days or less she'll be here!

Oh my goodness!

Those Empty Frames . . .

If you saw pictures of the nursery a while back, you may have been wondering what in the world I was planning to do with all those empty frames on the wall . . .

In fact, when my grandmother came to view the nursery she promptly said, "That's interesting. What made you choose to put all those flowers in the frames?"

Well, I finally got around to changing out the flowers.

I LOVE old pictures . . . especially those old black and whites your mom or grandmother might keep on hand from years and years ago. So, I thought I'd take a few of our family's old baby pictures to display a small "family tree."

My grandmother will be so proud.

36 Weeks!

. . . that makes 9 months today! (For those of you who aren't aware, pregnancy is actually 10 months, not 9.) The doctor says she's probably around 5 1/2 pounds and around 18 inches right now. Although, she more often feels like 10 pounds! At this point, I find myself needing help simply standing up.

I guess it's her growing body that makes her movements more and more noticeable . . . because she hasn't slowed down a bit. One of the funniest things that seemed to suddenly appear this month, has to be her hiccups! She hiccups daily . . . in fact, sometimes numerous times a day. (I sure hope this isn't forewarning of a gassy child coming our way . . .)

As you already know, I've been on bed rest for the last week. There's no doubt a difference in my daily life style going from teaching to the couch. I'm not sure how this will effect my maternity leave, but I know it's already been worth it.

The car seat is in . . . the clothes are washed . . . the bags are packed.

Now we wait.

Ross Update

Just got back from the doctor! Everything looks great! We are most excited I'm still at 2 cm., and she seems to be holding steady in there!

Keep it up for just one more week, Ross! :)

Last Minute Details

Sweet, Grady! He's come home every night to a new project. I just don't know what I'd do without him. The good news, however, is that I think we might finally be ready . . . except for one more house cleaning, that is . . . sorry, Grady.

Baby Ross Update

Well . . . I had a feeling this was coming . . .

After a visit to the doctor's office yesterday, it seems as though I am already dilated 2 cm., and Ross looks as if she has already positioned herself ready for arrival. She was absolutely positive she wouldn't last to the due date. In the hopes of keeping her in a little longer, the doctor has put me on bed rest.

Again, with my sister being early, I really and truly am not surprised. I was hoping it wouldn't be the case, but deep down, I knew it was.

Luckily, I did prepare my classroom almost totally for an emergency departure . . . but I hadn't had a chance to say good-bye to the kids . . . and I can't help but be pretty sad about that. However, I did spend most of my evening last night writing a letter to the parents.

I can't tell you I'm not a bit nervous. I'm still very unsure what to expect. I do not like the fact that I'm completely and totally on edge, thinking I may be on my way to the hospital at any second. That was not in the plan. My plan consisted of a leisurely week before birth cleaning and mentally preparing. I can't clean . . . and my mind doesn't seem to be completely functioning at the moment.

I can't deny, though, I'm pretty darn excited, too. This baby girl is almost in my arms, and from what I hear, there's no better feeling than that.

An Easy Hostess Gift

Not nearly enough for everything the girls did for the baby shower last weekend, but a little something . . .

I started with a plain kitchen towel.

I used some stencils I had to trace each letter on iron-on transfer paper. It's paper on one side and a bit sticky on the other. (If you're unsure about this, ask somebody at the fabric store. They will know exactly what it is!) Remember to trace on the non sticky side.

Iron (sticky side down) to your fabric.

This makes cutting out on the lines very easy!

The opposite side (or paper side) should be able to peal away.

Once you peal it away, it will also be a bit sticky.

Put the sticky side down on your towel and iron it on.

Once ironed, sew a quick stitch around the entire letter.

Then add any trim or detail you wish at the bottom.

They certainly aren't perfect . . .

but hopefully the girls aren't looking too closely!
