I know I talk about this all the time, but I really can't believe how big Ross is getting . . . and this week proved that to be true more than ever before . . .
I'm sure you've heard of the baby signing craze that's been going on in the last several years . . . and I had no intentions of ever introducing Ross to sign language. In fact, just a few months ago I had a conversation about it with a friend saying, ". . . well, I just heard that it hinders your child in speaking. Why speak, when you don't have to!"
I guess it was that conversation that got me interested in researching it a little more.
Come to find out, the exact opposite is true. Research has actually proved that babies tend to speak even earlier and with higher vocabularies! Researchers say it improves their language learning and their IQ!
Anyway, I'm not here to sell you on baby signing . . . back to Ross.
So, I'm slowly attempting to teach Ross a few signs. One very important sign we've been learning is "outside." After feeding and changing her, I put her down in her bouncy seat. She immediately let me know she did not want to be put down and began to fuss. I knew it was about time for my daily bottle of beer to go outside, so I quickly said, "Ross, we're going to go outside." (while signing the word "outside.")
I wish I had it recorded for you to see, but INSTANTLY she stopped fussing. I mean, in the middle of a huge fuss- just stopped.
I don't know if it was the word or the sign or both, but she knew exactly what I was talking about. I still can't believe it.
Like I said, she's just getting so big. Really! Wasn't it just yesterday that I was bringing her home from the hospital?
*sigh* Soon, she'll be going off to college . . .

I CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE HER TOMORROW! I am so excited! She is just the sweetest! I am really glad you are trying the sign language. I was very interested in it when I first read about it and people kept saying all that about them not talking early...but I never believed it. I think the earlier you can communicate the better so why not! I would have done it if I had known about it for you and Jennifer! Can we create a sign for Mimi and Papa?
A signing baby is a happy baby. Annabelle would sign "restroom" at 12 months and we were done with diapers at 18 months. If you need to borrow any of the signing times DVD let me know. Signing also increases vocab. I really loved being able to communicate with Annabelle before she could talk.

That's wonderful to hear, Margie!
And, absolutely, Courtney!
