Gram: 6 Weeks

Well, I wish I could tell you I've hopped right back into the swing of things with this new little man, but I'll be honest, I'm lucky to even get a shower these days, much less blog. Needless to say, it's been busy over here. I found my days before Gram came along to be pretty busy...throw all of that in with feedings, diaper changes and spit-up...and well, you can probably see my point.

But, as all moms adjust, eventually I will too...

Here's where we are:

Feedings:
Gram has done wonderful with breastfeeding. He latched on immediately...and quite frankly, it feels like he never let go. He finds comfort in it much more than Ross ever did, to the point where he's pretty darn fussy when I feed him a bottle. (However, he does fine when Grady does.)
I'll admit, I've slacked up on my strict 3 hr feeding schedule I used with Ross. He feeds more like every 2 and 1/2 hrs. It's a lot of work, but he's happy and my milk supply is way more this go around.

Sleeping:
He seems to be sleeping great! He naps between every feeding and gets up once around 2 or 3 am for a feeding (that is, after a 10 or 11pm feeding). His daytime naps can sometimes be frustrating...waking up every 30-45 minutes only to sometimes go back to sleep for another 30-45 minutes. Usually I put him down in the swing or basinet for the first half, then I'm typically holding him for the last half. I know this will get better once he's a little older and is taking his 2 naps a day...

Issues:
Fussiness: Maybe I'm just forgetting what babies innately do.  But, I swear I don't remember Ross fussing quite as much. He's been on Zantac for a bit over 2 weeks now, hoping that would help...and maybe it has a little. I'm not sure. He is super happy in the mornings and gradually gets fussier and fussier as the day continues...with the evening time being the worst. Gas and refulx could be the main culprit...but thoughts of dairy allergy have run through my mind as well...the latest thing to throw me off have been his poos...pine tree green poos to be exact. I just can't figure it out.
I just keep hoping the older he gets, the less fussy he'll become...

Happy Times:
On a brighter note, Gram has started smiling...and almost laughing...and I can tell you, that alone has made every cry, every nightime feeding and every pine tree green poopie all worthwhile.

hang in there holly! you're doing great! there's a HUGE adjustment adding child #2 and you'll all find your way. just keep reminding yourself that gram is a different baby and naturally he's going to do some things differently from ross. :)

I know you're right...I think it's just been me actually accepting that!

Your son is doing exactly how my little man did in his early days. However we didn't get good sleep at night between feedings and my milk supply never came in enough for him so we switched to formula. He would start out so happy in the day and get fussier too. Now he is a pretty happy little toddler though. His naps also were irregular early on and then he got into a really great 2 nap routine with one nap being usually 1hr 1/2. Hang in there and I'm sure he will get his routine figured out. Boys just love to eat it seems. I am having a girl this time and I am hoping she will be more of a sleeper and go longer between feedings. We did every 3 hour feedings for basically the whole time he was on the bottle.
