The Sippy Cup

Well, our doctor mentioned it might be a good time to start introducing the sippy cup . . . using milk or water or diluted juice. I thought it would be fun to start with some water. That might be a nice change?

hmm . . . maybe?

maybe!?!?!?

MAYBE!?!?!?

Oh, NO!

Definitely not.

I've tried using milk for 3 or 4 days in a row now . . . and she still fusses about it! Any tips? Or is she just a bit too young yet?

That's too funny! My first still won't drink plain water, and he's 2! Also, he always preferred to drink milk from his bottle, but he would try juice from his sippy. He didn't start drinking milk from his sippy until he was close to a year and we said bye-bye to the bottles. Try the juice, maybe if it's something new and sweet she will forget about that weird contraption she's drinking from! :)

no real tips unfortunately... we've been trying for months and bailey still struggles with her sippy cups. she absolutely LOVES water, but she still hasn't mastered sipping from the cup. so, i've resorted to taking the valves off of them so that the water pours freely... much easier for her, but very messy. another issue we've had with the cups is that since bailey seems to always be getting a new tooth she usually would rather chew on the cup than drink from it. just give ross some time and she'll figure it out in her own way :)

it took a while for cole to learn how to work them too - and he's really just now to the point where he kind of likes them (at almost 11 months!). he would always just naw on it like alanna said about her's. i would just give ross some time, and maybe try a little apple juice to spice things up :)

Try different types of sippy cups. Alex went through several different types before we found that the "take and toss" ones worked the best for him. Also, I wouldn't worry about it...she'll get it. Just keep trying, and eventually it will happen. I think the goal is to get rid of bottles between 12 and 14 months...or something like that. I always made 12 months our goal, but I think it's acceptable to go a little longer. And, when we dropped bottles, we went cold turkey and didn't look back! :-)

Carter is getting half juice and half water in her bottle in the afternoon. Its a nice transition from bottled milk to sippy cup juice and/or water. I found it worked well with Will too. I can't remember when he started using a sippy cup, but he was closer to 1.

Durham never really took to the sippy cup. i wanted her to go straight to the straw cup so i always had one out (with water in it) when she was playing. She would just chew on it and eventually she caught on and began sucking. :) It took a while. She was closer to 11 months, i think.
Ross is a champ! She'll get it very soon!

Kendall had the Avent feeding system where everything was interchangeable....the handles from the sippy cups could fit on the bottle. So I put used that with milk/formula first then eventually went to juice in the sippy cup. I agree with letting her play with it some so she gets use to the idea of it being an alternative source of liquid/water/milk.... And I can't believe she is so grown up already. She is gorgeous!!!

Peyton hated hated hated them when we started and she was almost 1. We tried every brand possible....with formula, milk, juice, water. You just have to keep trying and offering. We had already stopped bottles so she went like 2 weeks without drinking barely anything and having like 2 wet diapers a day. I was freaking out! But now she does ok. She prefers the ones with the thick straws for milk and the cheap twist on Dora ones for juice. Both leak but oh well.
